A “New” Putter for Under $20? The SuperStroke Story

I posted photos of my Tour Bronze Sabertooth a few weeks ago.  Since that time, I was lucky enough to win a SuperStroke grip from a contest at MyGolfSpy.com.  The Sabertooth seemed the perfect target for the grip and also for a new headcover.  Through a little eBay magic, I was able to find the mallet version of Odyssey Tempest headcover.  Normally, a new grip and headcover is not a huge change, but the upgrade has truly made the putter feel new.  The headcover looks nice, but I think that the new feeling can really be attributed to the SuperStroke UltraSlim grip.

I was truly not prepared for how much I would like this grip.  Obviously there is something to the SuperStroke grips if PGA Tour players like David Toms and KJ Choi are using them.  I do like larger grips, but anything above a midsized just looked crazy to me.  So when I won the grip from SuperStroke, I was interested in the UltraSlim.  It didn’t look too huge so I thought I would give it a go.  Man am I glad I did.  This grip feels amazing.  The material has a great texture.  The shape is a bit different, with the lower part of the grip being a bit larger than the top.  Initially that felt a bit off, but I think that I am becoming a fan.  This grip has definitely put some growl back into the Sabertooth.  If I hadn’t won the grip, I would never have known.  Did you notice the nice blue grip on Matt Kucher’s putter when he won the players?  Yep, SuperStroke…
